Who they are

The Australian Conservation Foundation campaigns for a world where forests, rivers, people and wildlife thrive. It works through local community groups, and the Bayside group in the Redlands has been fighting a plan to clear 652 koala habitat trees for a school sporting field.

The area holds one of the largest remaining koala groups in the Redlands, in a region where numbers have fallen sharply under urban development.

What we did

A volunteer named Vicki wrote to us. She needed Respect The Locals koala tees in time for a protest at Parliament House, and the protest was days away.

We treated it as a priority order and got them there. The group wore them into the public gallery. We also threw in two of the new Currumbin conservation tees, because they were about to be photographed a lot and the koalas needed the airtime.

Why this one matters

This is the smallest kind of help and it mattered more than most. Somebody had already done the organising. All that was missing was a shirt that said the thing out loud, in a room where saying it out loud was the whole point.
